Ruckus As DHCP Server ????

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

Can the ruckus zonedirector 3000 be used in a large wireless environment? It was an option that was brought up today during our pre-install discussions. I was under the understanding that the the zd dhcp server is very limited and not recommended. We have a dhcp running and I was going to use that until this option was presented. In a way it would seem easier to allow the ruckus equipment to handle the wireless side. I just don’t see it happening though. We are looking at 4 ssid’s and the equipment doesn’t seem to be able to provide dhcp scopes. I don’t want to find out later it won’t work and I have to scramble to get our dhcp server configured.Thank you

Ground floor has 20 users, first floor 10 users and 2 users on the second floor. Some how when we are connected to the lan our internet speed is fine, but when we connect via the wifi the speed is extermely slow. Please help, what could be the problem? Oh, our zone director is 100D.

Ruckus 7363 vs Ruckus R300

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

My company currently have the Ruckus 7363. We are looking to expand our office, I was wondering if the Ruckus R300 is a significant upgrade over the 7363 in term of interference mitigation and range. If not we may switch to the R500. Anyone can help, would be greatly appreciated.

New R710 deployment problems with HP Switches entering POE+ 802.3at mode

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

All of our ruckus APs (R710s) are in 802.3af mode.  Every AP is connected to a POE+ port on our 5412zl switches (Capable of 37 watts per port).  In CLI on our ZD3000 we have set the lldp enable in the System Default group.  Anyone else seeing this issue?  Thank you!

Ruckus R710 APs on HP Procurve 3500yl (J9310A) PoE+ switch

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

This took a bit to find the clues scattered across the Internet. I am putting this here to help others who are on the hunt to get their HP Procurve PoE+ switches working with the new Ruckus R710 AP (in 802.3at mode). I tested this method on the HP Procurve 3500yl (J9310A) PoE+ switch. It may work on other HP Procurve models.First, there are settings that need to be done in the ZoneDirector to enable LLDP. If you are using the APs as standalone devices, you may need to enable LLDP on each AP. 1. Connect to the ZoneDirector using Telnet or SSH.2. Enter the following commands:    enable    config    ap-group “System Default”         LLDP enable    exit    (REPEAT the ap-group part for each ap group you have setup in ZoneDirector)    exit3. Connect to the Procurve 3500yl (J9310A) switch using Telnet or SSH.4. Check the switch firmware. It should be K.16.01.0004 or newer.  If it is older, update the firmware on the switch before continuing.5. Enter the following command to check the firmware version:        show version6. Determine the ports you have the R710 APs connected to. (I have ports 1-10 are connected to Ruckus R710 APs)    Use this command to ‘see’ the PoE devices on your switch:    show power-over-ethernet brief7. Enter the following commands:        config    lldp run    interface 1       poe-value 25       poe-lldp-detect enable    exit    (REPEAT for each interface that has a Ruckus R710 AP connected)    lldp config 1-10 medTlvEnable capabilities    lldp config 1-10 medTlvEnable network_policy    lldp config 1-10 medTlvEnable poe    lldp config 1-10 dot3TlvEnable poeplus_config    exit    write memory8. Reset power to APs (this will disconnect anyone using WiFi momentarily)    config   interface 1       no power       power
exit     (REPEAT for each interface that has a Ruckus R710 AP connected)Sit back and relax. After some time has passed, check the ZoneDirector -> Monitor -> Access Points -> click on one of the R710 APs and see that it shows 802.3at PoE+ for “Power Consumption Mode”This worked for me!

Does this mean specifically support for 802.1x services or .1x like services?

Are there any switches that are confirmed to “just work” maybe even out of box via default settings? It seems majority of posts on here are switches that don’t work.

Why Ruckus?

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

We are a public school district looking to do a complete overhaul of our wireless network. A bit over 725,000 square feet of indoor space, 4,300 students with nearly 1,400 students in the High School who are heavy users. We are looking at 5 different wireless vendors including Ruckus. In a nutshell, why should we choose Ruckus? We have engaged the local Ruckus sales staff and engineers but it is always good to hear from current customers.

QoS support for RTP – Brocade Switches

Posted on 27 Sep, 2017, in Uncategorized

Hi guys, we’re using these sdi over fiber extenders (but we utilize only ethernet channel) for transferring video streams on RTP. And right now we need to choose a new switch, we consider Brocade, just need an advice which switch is the most suitable model with advanced QoS support, we would need to set priority for RTP protocol and MAC Table caching with port based buffering would be a nice set of desired functions for us.
